For you to know when you are ovulating, get an ovulation kit or a fertility monitor. Try and relegate your readings of it to the background. Constantly harping about fertility times can be a mood kill and can work against you. Also once you have figured out your ovulation cycle, the trick is to have sex before you ovulate and not after. Two or three days before your actual ovulation sets in will increase your chances of conception.

Never ever rely on the regular calendar to predict your ovulation period. This could lead to arbitrary readings and can ruin your chances of conceiving.
